The raw, changing elements of nature and of relationships with people inspire my thoughts and my techniques. I predominantly use recycled objects from construction sites and the recycling bin, and organic materials for texture such as sawdust, mulch, bark and food. I paint with acrylic and liquid watercolor paint and integrate ink, water soluble oil pastel, colored pencil and crayon and collage. Color, texture, layers and metaphor speak to emotions and movement in my body and spirit as well as in my environment--the fluidity of climbing, skiing, mountain biking, yoga; the wind, a river, changing glaciers and mountainous landscapes. I feel alive amidst the tactile process of sculpting the surfaces of my paintings and discovering meaning that emerges through process.
