"Living in the Questions"

Being human in a wounded world lends itself to many an unsolved question.  Living with eyes open, awake to pain, awake to my emotion, to other’s emotion emits fumes of unsettled uncertainty; a gnawing of unfairness, disparity, anger, sadness, and helplessness.  And yet, it is in the presence of the question with another that redemptive life is found, voices heard, passion unearthed, healing hands held and words welcomed.

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue.  Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them.  And the point is, to live everything.  Live the questions now.  Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant future into the answer. “

Rilke
